Mr. Banks is the Founder, President and Executive Producer of Ember Media Corporation, a full service multimedia production studio and interactive publishing company. Banks spent over 10 years in the cable and entertainment industry, before launching Ember Media in 1998. Prior to Ember Media, he served as Vice President of Affiliate Relations for Comedy Central. While at Comedy Central, Banks opened New York and Chicago Affiliate Relations offices, recruited, hired, and managed a senior sales team and expanded the distribution of Comedy Central throughout the Country. Prior to Comedy Central, Banks served three years as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Sega Channel. In his capacity at Sega Channel, Banks negotiated affiliation agreements for distribution of the service with the top cable companies in the US. Some of his client list included: Comcast, Cablevision Systems, Time Warner, and Charter Communications. During his tenure at Sega Channel Banks acquired distribution in over 20 million homes in less than two years. Prior to Sega Channel, Banks served as Regional Director at Showtime Networks, where he was responsible for launching The Movie Channel in New York City and overseeing overall growth of Showtime Networks among assigned multiple system operators.

Betty Bastidas

Betty Bastidas is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, educator and mom based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Ecuador, came to the US at the age of nine. She uses filmmaking and photography as social tools to celebrate the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. She is attracted to issues concerning youth, immigration, and exploring the Latino American experience in the US. She is the co-founder of Maracuya Productions, a bi-cultural production company focusing on creating content on the Latino experience for non-profits and broadcast. Betty’s short film, Can’t Hold Me Back, following 17-year old, Fernando Parraz, from Detroit as he becomes the first in his family to earn a high school diploma was part of the 2013 PBS Online Film Festival, aired on PBS Independent Lens, and streamed on VMe and Univision this past October. She is completing DreamTown, her first feature length film following three players as they pursue their soccer dreams to make it out professionally amidst immense odds. DreamTown has garnered the NALIP/HBO Documentary award, and a short version on Afro-Ecuadorian soccer players was published on PBS’s Frontline/World. Her work has garnered numerous awards, including a NYFA Photography Fellowship, NALAC Fund for the Arts Grant in 2008 and 2013, and Brooklyn Council of the Arts Community Grant. A graduate of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, her projects have featured in the New York Times, PBS, and BET, as well as Vibe, Trace, and Esquire magazines.

Emma Brackett

Emma Brackett is Vice President of Content & Programming for DIRECTV. Brackett is primarily responsible for strategy and acquisitions of Spanish-language, International and Home Shopping content for DIRECTV’s linear and digital platforms. Brackett negotiates distribution agreements and manages relationships with scores of networks, studios, broadcasters, programmers and independent producers to secure the best content experience for DIRECTV’s customers. Brackett joins DIRECTV from Globecast Americas where she served as Vice President of Consumer Video. In that role, Brackett successfully launched the MyGlobeTV OTT platform and managed the WorldTV satellite platform. Brackett also spent six years at AT&T U-Verse, most recently as Director of Content, developing AT&T’s International and Hispanic content strategy and acquisitions. Brackett earned her bachelor’s degree from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio and her law degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California where she was Associate Editor of Southwestern Law Review. Brackett is a founding Board of Governors member of Southwestern’s Entertainment and IP Law Alumni Association and is a member of the California Bar. Brackett is based in DIRECTV’s New York office.

Artie Bulgrin is ESPN’s senior vice president, research & analytics. He joined ESPN as Vice President, Research and Sales Development in February 1996 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2001. Bulgrin supervises a staff which provides audience and market research services to all divisions of the company including programming, domestic and international ad sales, affiliate sales, and consumer marketing. Responsibilities include the evaluation of audience research in the U.S. (both TV and digital analytics) and Latin America, and the coordination of proprietary and syndicated market research to support all divisions of ESPN. He also manages ESPN’s interest in the ESPN SportsPoll, a service of TNS Intersearch and the leading provider of consumer intelligence about the sports fan and sports sponsorship in the U.S. The goal of the department is to provide research that helps to understand and extend the ESPN brand, increase distribution, grow target audiences, and develop new revenue opportunities.

John Choi

John Choi serves as Director, Distribution Strategy, Fox Networks (FN) where he develops multi-platform growth strategies for FN’s diverse group of cable and broadcast networks and their content, explores potential new business models with emerging distributors such as OTT platforms, and contributes to FN’s long range digital strategy. He is responsible for assessing trends that impact the pay TV industry, performing strategic analysis on topics including programming costs, cord cutting and pay TV bundling, and presenting findings to company executives. Before joining FN in 2012, Mr. Choi spent four years with DirecTV, his second stint there, serving as Program Manager, Consumer Software Engineering, overseeing the company’s technology strategy and implementations for VOD/PPV movies, TV and adult content projects. Prior to DirecTV, Mr. Choi started and ran his own mortgage and real estate company for several years. He previously served as Director, Product Management at iBlast, the first national data broadcast network utilizing broadcasters’ unused digital TV spectrum to efficiently deliver broadband content to consumers, and was a satellite design engineer at Hughes Space & Communications. Mr. Choi holds a Master of Business Administration from UCLA Anderson and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He is involved with the Los Angeles branch of The Posse Foundation, a renowned college access and leadership development non-profit.

Known for her quirky projects, Valerie is the mastermind behind cult hits like, I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant on TLC and the critically acclaimed The Chef Jeff Project on The Food Network. Stephanie DiVito is the Sr. Director of Audience Research at ESPN. She’s been with ESPN since 2000, and currently oversees all audience research efforts for ESPN’s six domestic TV networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPN Classic, ESPNU, and ESPN Deportes), as well as ESPN on ABC. Stephanie’s team is charged with providing accurate reporting, intelligent analysis, and strategic advice to virtually all departments within the company, with a special emphasis on Programming, Production, Finance, and Communications. Prior to ESPN, she worked as a Media Analyst at Busch Media Group – Anheuser Busch’s in-house media buying group. Lisa Gelobter has been working in digital media for more than 20 years, with a focus on strategy, operations and technology. She has been integrally involved with the advent of several pioneering internet technologies, including Shockwave, the genesis of animation on the web, and the emergence of online video by way of Brightcove, Joost and The FeedRoom. Lisa was also a member of the senior management team for the launch of Hulu. Through the convergence of media and technology, she has been fortunate enough to have had an impact on how, where and when media is consumed. Tom Grayman

Thomas Grayman is an award-winning media industry researcher, currently serving as Senior Director, Brand and Consumer Research, Spike TV, for Viacom Media Networks, where he conducts consumer research to guide network content and marketing strategies. Paul Hockenbury is the Executive Director of Market Research and Analysis for Comcast. He manages the team responsible for most of the consumer facing Marketing Research work and the Product Marketing Analysis team for core cable business. An award winning researcher in the Cable industry, Paul has twenty years of experience in Market Research and Competitive Intelligence. He has taught Consumer Behavior and New Product Development at the Wharton School of Business and is a frequent lecturer at a number of different universities. Alexis Johnson

Alexis Johnson is Vice President of Content Acquisition for Time Warner Cable. In this role, Mr. Johnson negotiates agreements with content providers, programmers, and broadcast groups to secure linear and digital content rights (including VOD, PPV, TV Everywhere, Online Streaming and IPTV) for distribution in the U.S. He is also responsible for managing the company’s relationships with content providers and programmers serving local, Hispanic, multicultural, and sports audiences. Mr. Johnson first joined Time Warner Cable in 2007 as Senior Director of Programming, from Verizon FiOS, where he spent 3 years as Director of Programming. At Verizon, he was responsible for programming strategy, content negotiations, and video package development. Previously, Mr. Johnson spent 9 years with DIRECTV where he served in various roles including operations management, programming operations, and programming acquisition. Prior to DIRECTV, he worked as a Program Sales Specialist with IDB Communications, where he sold satellite, fiber, and uplink capacity to sports clients, broadcasters, cable programmers, and corporate clients. Mr. Johnson earned a B.A. from University of California at Berkeley, an M.A. from the University of Southern California, and a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. He is also a member of NAMIC (National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications), a member of the New Jersey and California Bar Associations, and he serves on the scholarship and internship committees of the T. Howard Foundation.

Joel Kliksberg

Joel Kliksberg has been a key member of Fusion’s management team since the network’s inception in May 2012. He serves as Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer overseeing marketing, communications, research and business development for the network. Before joining Fusion, Joel served as Chief of Staff to the President of ABC News where he played a role in the strategic planning for the news division. Prior to that he worked as a communications consultant for the United Nations and covered the 2008 presidential election for NBC as a News Associate. Joel began his journalism career at age 15 by covering the Hispanic communities of Washington, D.C. He earned a Juris Doctor and Master in Business Administration from Cornell University in just three years, while serving as president of the law school’s student body, and his Bachelor of Arts from Duke University, where he served as vice-president of the student body. Joel grew up in Caracas, Venezuela until immigrating to the Washington, D.C. area. He lived in four continents and is fluent in three languages.

As Executive Vice President of Casting, Keli Lee leads all casting and talent deal negotiations for the ABC Television Network and ABC Studios. Series under her oversight include the multi-award-winning hits Modern Family, Scandal, and Greys Anatomy. Her passion for developing rising stars and casting diverse talent globally led her to create and produce the ABC Casting Department’s Talent Showcase, which in its 12th year continues to provide diverse actors from around the country with training, mentorship and exposure to industry professionals. Past participants include 2014 Academy Award nominee Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Chadwick Boseman (42), Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), and Dania Ramirez (Devious Maids). In 2013, Ms. Lee introduced ABC Casting into the social media spectrum by creating, ABC Make Me a Star, the first ever network television digital talent competition. Ms. Lee joined ABC in 1991, serving as head of Casting since 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from New York University.

Michael L. Maliner

Michael Maliner describes strategic planning as the art and craft of revealing the stories that are hidden in data. He is an expert at qualitative research design and interpreting quantitative data to elicit trends and consumer behavior. Michael Maliner is dot.com refugee who found his post-bubble home on Madison Avenue when, he was hired by TBWA\Chiat\Day NY to help establish their interactive department. It was there that Michael was introduced to the discipline of strategic planning. Since that time, Michael has worked at such prestigious Madison Avenue agencies as Agency.com, iLeo and JWT, on global brands that include Absolut, Kmart, Cadillac, and the US Marine Corp. While working at JWT, Michael leveraged observed user behaviors to inform the design of the Marine Corps digital ecosystem. He continued his work on the Marine Corp by focusing on its diversity mission when he joined UniWorld Group as a planner. Joe Min is an Account Director at Intertrend Communications. In his role, he has lead the account team on clients such as Toyota, AT&T, Disney, Remy Martin and Anheuser Busch, helping to build strong partnerships and relationships. Combining his years of experience with a deep understanding of the Asian American landscape, he assists in the development of relevant strategies, compelling creative platforms and consumer messaging. Joe joined interTrend in 2005. Prior to that, he spent several years at RPA, a general market ad agency working on Acura. He began his career in marketing and advertising on the client side at Kia Motors.

She is one of the leading attorneys representing programmers in distribution agreements with cable, satellite and telco providers and Internet-based distributors. Her practice serves both cable networks and broadcast station groups, and her work covers traditional linear carriage, as well as free, subscription and transactional video-on-demand and electronic sell-through models. She has extensive, experience in “TV Everywhere” agreements, assisting in the negotiation of some of the most comprehensive and complex deals in the industry. Robyn also has particular knowledge in the technical aspects of content distribution, including content protection and digital rights management. Diana Polvere is the Vice President of Market Research at Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street. She has been with the organization for over 5 years as head of the insights group, responsible for syndicated audience measurement and primary consumer research supporting all aspects of the business including global licensing and distribution, sponsorship, production, digital media and marketing. Prior to Sesame Workshop, Diana was at American Express for six years as Director of Research, leading a team in their Global Marketplace Insights group, providing research to inform key business initiatives, new product development, product line strategy, brand communications, acquisition and customer satisfaction. Her team was also responsible for market research studies to guide the development of interactive channels across various business groups. Her previous experience includes client and supplier side positions across various industries including consumer packaged goods, travel, technology, financial services and media. Michelle Rice

As Executive Vice President of Affiliate Sales & Marketing, Ms. Rice develops distribution strategy and handles national accounts negotiations with all the major multichannel video programming distributors (MPVDs) to increase and maximize TV One’s content distribution opportunities across all platforms. She also manages the field sales team and oversees affiliate marketing and partnerships for tis entertainment and lifestyle network which targets African American adults. She joined TV One in January 2004 as Vice President of Distribution Strategy and Operations and was named a Senior Vice President in March 2005. Before joining TV One, she served as Northeast Regional Vice President for Affiliate Relations & National Accounts for iNDemand in New York, in addition to spending five years at NBC Cable Networks, where she was responsible for distribution of CNBC, MSNBC, and Shop NBC to special market accounts including DirecTV and Echostar. Edwin Roman

Edwin Roman, who joined ESPN in 2004, is a Director of Consumer Insights in the Research and Analytics division. In this role, Mr. Roman helps internal clients understand the sports and media landscape as it relates to the ESPN consumer. He is tasked with presenting these clients with strategic insights based on innovative research solutions. Mr. Roman has completed several ad hoc research studies on behalf of clients across different ESPN properties and divisions, including Sales, Marketing, Programming, Production and Communications. He has extensive experience in designing questionnaires and transforming quantitative results into actionable insights. He is also a graduate of the RIVA Training Institute and well-versed in qualitative techniques. In addition to moderating focus groups himself, he has managed numerous qualitative projects and creative sessions to provide deeper consumer insights to the company. Prior to joining ESPN, Mr. Roman conducted consumer trends research for RoperASW, where he was responsible for analyzing and communicating macro level trends and category specific insights across a broad range of industries. Scott Rosenberg is Vice President of Business Development, Content and Services at Roku where he is responsible for developing content partnerships for the Roku platform. Prior to Roku, Scott co-founded and led Umami TV, a VC-backed startup in NYC that pioneered the use of audio fingerprinting to enable synchronized companion TV experiences on mobile and tablet devices. Prior to Umami, he was vice president of Advanced Advertising at Rovi, where he led interactive ad sales. Scott has also held senior product and engineering roles at BlackArrow, ReplayTV, Analog Devices, and Intel. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Princeton, and was a Fulbright Fellow to Japan. Michael Teicher

Michael Teicher serves as Executive Vice President, Media Sales of Twentieth Television. In this role, Teicher is responsible for overseeing all sales initiatives on behalf of Twentieth Television including ad sales for 20th Century Fox Television and Debmar-Mercury programming. Domestic Television Distribution including all off-net and first-run television programs. As part of his responsibilities, Teicher oversaw the operation responsible for selling national advertising time for such first-run series as “TMZ,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Extra,” “The People’s Court,” as well as off-network series “Big Bang Theory,” “Friends,” “Two and A Half Men,” “The Middle,” and “The Closer” to name a few. Jose is the founder and President of Sensis, a cross-cultural advertising agency with digital at its core. Jose founded Sensis as a Web development firm in 1998 and one of the first agencies focusing on the Hispanic digital market. He has since grown Sensis into a unique full-service ad agency – that takes a digitally-infused cross-cultural approach to the general market. Sensis clients include DIRECTV, Union Bank, the FDA, Southern California Public Radio, and United Healthcare. Prior to joining DISH, Sruta ran a strategy consulting firm with numerous Fortune 500 clients. She also held various positions at Allstate in strategy, marketing and business development, and she consulted for Diamond Technology partners serving clients in CPG, retail, financial services, and biomedical and medical devices. Born and raised in India, Sruta moved to the U.S. after completing high school. She earned a biomedical and electrical engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University, and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. Kristina Wong is a solo performer, writer and cultural commentator named “One of the Seven Funniest Eco-Comedians” by Mother Nature Network. She’s created five solo shows and one ensemble play that have toured all over the world at places that include the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, Contact Theater in Manchester, UK, BGWMC in London, the Public Theater, REDCAT, Center Theater Group, La MaMa ETC, the Comedy Central Stage among dozens of others. Her most notable touring show– “Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” looked at the high rates of depression and suicide among Asian American women and toured to over 40 venues since 2006.
